AMES, Iowa -- Mimi Benjamin, assistant to the vice president for student affairs, has been named interim dean of students effective Sept. 8. She will remain in the position until a permanent dean of students is selected later this fall. A national search is under way.
Sharon McGuire, who has served as interim dean of students since July 2005, will become associate vice president for undergraduate studies at Boise State University, Idaho.
Since 1999, McGuire also has directed ISU's Academic Success Center. Debra Sanborn will assume the role of interim director. Sanborn is director of the Hixson Opportunity Awards Program and National Student Exchange, part of the Dean of Students Office.
A search committee to identify a new director of the Academic Success Center will be named after the permanent dean of students is in place, Vice President for Student Affairs Tom Hill said.
Benjamin joined Iowa State in 1997 as a coordinator of residence life. She's been in her current position -- in charge of special projects, communication and assistance to Hill -- since 2004.
Benjamin received bachelor's (1989) and master's (1996) degrees from Clarion University, Penn.; a master's in educational leadership from Ohio University, Athens, in 1994; and a doctorate in educational leadership and policy studies from Iowa State in 2004.
