Statement from Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy

Our hearts go out to the Northern Illinois University family in the aftermath of this unimaginable tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences to the family members, friends, classmates and colleagues of those who lost their lives, and we pray for healing and recovery for all those who were injured or affected by this terrible incident.

We are reminded, once again, how vulnerable we can be despite our best efforts to provide an environment that is safe and secure, just as we are reminded about how vigilant and aware we all must be to situations and circumstances that can lead to such devastating events. Safety is our paramount concern, and we need everyone's help to make our campus and community safe.

I urge any Iowa State University students who are having difficulty as a result of this tragedy, or any other situation, to seek out help from our counselors in the Student Counseling Service at 515-294-5056. Faculty and staff can receive counseling through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provided by The Richmond Center, 515-232-5811, or 800-830-7009.
