Animal Planet's Jeff Corwin will speak at Iowa State on April 5

AMES, Iowa -- Wildlife biologist and TV host Jeff Corwin will discuss saving endangered species when he speaks at Iowa State University on Monday, April 5. His talk, "The Race to Save Earth's Most Endangered Species," will be at 8 p.m. in Stephens Auditorium. Doors open at 7 p.m. The presentation, part of the university's National Affairs Series, is free and open to the public.

Corwin is an Emmy Award-winning producer and host of more than a dozen TV series on several channels, including Animal Planet, Discovery, Disney and The Travel Channel. His Animal Planet program, "The Jeff Corwin Experience," is one of the most popular cable TV shows, reaching more than 13 million viewers in the United States and airing in more than 70 countries. In 2004, Corwin won an Emmy for best performer in a children's series. In 2007, he co-created and co-hosted CNN's "Planet in Peril" with Anderson Cooper.

He also is the author of "Living On the Edge: Amazing Relationships in the Natural World," and the Jeff Corwin Junior Explorer Series. His latest book is "The Race to Save Earth's Most Endangered Species."

Since his teenage years, Corwin has been a champion for the conservation of endangered species and ecosystems around the world. He was first introduced to the tropical rain forests while on an expedition to Belize, and is now an expert on rainforest animals.

Corwin also has established an interactive museum and environmental education center called EcoZone in Norwell, Mass., his childhood home. The goal is to build awareness for the wildlife and ecology unique to the wetlands of southeastern Massachusetts. In 2008, the Defenders of Wildlife, one of the nation's leading conservation organizations, named him their Ambassador of Climate Change.

Corwin has bachelor's degrees in biology and anthropology from Bridgewater State College, Mass., and a master's degree in wildlife and fisheries conservation from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In 1999, Bridgewater State College honored Corwin with a doctorate in public education for his work in communicating about the need for a sustainable approach to using natural resources and the importance of conserving endangered species.
