ISU researchers see an increase in mosquito populations

Every year as the temperatures heat up, Ryan Smith and his team at the Medical Entomology Lab at Iowa State begin the job of tracking mosquito populations across the state. They set up traps all around Iowa, and study the size of different types of mosquito populations. They also look for signs of West Nile Virus, and even use traps to catch various invasive mosquito species. Already, Smith says that they’ve seen larger mosquito populations than in the last several years in the state.
