ISU family converts distillery to make hand sanitizer

When COVID-19 shut down Iowa State's campus last spring, the Hoffmann children thought they would have a long vacation. But graduating senior Lexi and her Sophomore brothers David and Will soon got back to work at the family business. Their parents run Lonely Oak Distillery in Earling, IA. When they realized they could convert their business from making spirits to making much needed hand sanitizer, they dove right in, making hundreds of gallons every day for hospitals and local first responders. They went on to make around 10,000 gallons of hand sanitizer, helping to keep Midwest communities safe and healthy.
