Graduating senior Toni Sleugh is focusing on ocean conservation

Toni Sleugh grew up loving science and animals. Naturally, she got interested in biology before knowing exactly what she wanted to do in the field. An internship in Massachusetts doing marine biology got her hooked. But why come to Iowa State to study marine biology? Well, along with both of her parents being ISU alums, Sleugh says there are a lot of opportunities to get marine and aquatic biology experience at Iowa State. And being a Black woman in a STEM field encouraged her to work on community-building and mentoring young POC in her time at ISU. *This interview was shot following physical distancing guidelines, and with the interviewers wearing masks.
