Researchers killing PRRS virus with UV light to protect pigs

PRRS virus is a disease causing reproductive failure and respiratory disease in pigs. There is currently no specific treatment for PRRS, but researchers at Iowa State are working to change that. Professor Jacek Koziel and his team are researching whether UV light can kill or limit the spread of PRRS virus in pork production. Early results indicate that UV light can kill the virus in the air. They hope to eventually test the process in an actual swine farm.
