Volunteers sought for April 3 search

The search for ISU sophomore Abel Bolanos, 19, continues as teams of students and other volunteers join together Tuesday (April 3) with trained searchers from the STAR 1 team, Civil Air Patrol and local law enforcement in the effort.

ALERT: Police seek person who turned in student's credit, debit cards

A credit card and debit card belonging to missing ISU student Abel Bolanos were turned in to an Ames bank on Monday. Police are seeking any information about the person who found and turned in those cards. ISU Police ask that the individual who turned in the cards call ISU Police immediately at 515-294-4428.

Sister of missing student asks for help

The sister of missing Abel Bolanos asked the public for assistance in finding the ISU sophomore who disappeared in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 31. "Please help us find my brother," Marivelle Bolanos said during a media briefing outside Wallace Hall, where Bolanos lived. "This not like him at all, so we are very concerned."

Assistance sought in locating missing student

Iowa State University Police have issued a missing persons alert and are seeking assistance in locating a student who has not been seen since the early morning hours of Saturday, March 31, 2007. Abel M. Bolanos, age 19, was last seen at approximately 4:00 to 4:30 a.m. on March 31. He was seen leaving an apartment at 208 South Hyland and walking south on Hyland.

Exercise physiologist to discuss youth obesity prevention as ISU Pease Scholar April 19

Russell Pate, associate vice president for health sciences and professor in exercise science at the University of South Carolina and author of the 2006 book "Physical Activity Intervention for Youth," is the visiting Pease Family Scholar at Iowa State. He will present a free public lecture on Thursday, April 19.

College of Veterinary Medicine earns full accreditation status

Iowa State's College of Veterinary Medicine has been granted full accreditation status by the Council On Education of the American Veterinary Medical Association. The accreditation covers the complete academic program including the addition of a new professional program in veterinary medical education being offered with the University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL).

Students create furniture from tree felled by 2005 campus tornado

Some Iowa State University furniture design students and their professor have created furniture from a historic tree downed by a tornado that hit campus in 2005. The sculptural furniture is being used in the new Christian Petersen Art Museum.

Former ag dean Woteki will return to ISU for food safety symposium April 12

Catherine Woteki, global director of scientific affairs for Mars, Inc., and former dean of Iowa State's College of Agriculture, will deliver the keynote address on food safety and public health at the Institute for Food Safety and Security's annual symposium, Thursday, April 12, at the Gateway Center in Ames.

Iowa State to unveil the most realistic virtual reality room in the world

Iowa State University's Virtual Reality Applications Center will unveil improvements to C6, its six-sided virtual reality room, on April 26. The unveiling will be part of this year's Emerging Technologies Conference 07.

ISU psychologists Craig Anderson, Douglas Gentile and Katherine Buckley share the results of three new studies in their book, "Violent Video Game Effects on Children and Adolescents" -- research Anderson and Gentile will be presenting at the Society for Research in Child Development Biennial Meeting next week.

International biotech company to open office at the Iowa State Research Park

Novozymes, a Denmark-based biotechnology company, expects to open its first Midwest office at the Iowa State University Research Park in April. The office staff will support customers in the ethanol industry, offer training for customers and research new technologies to help make ethanol from plant fiber. Some of the company's researchers may work with Iowa State University scientists.
