Tornado simulator

National Geographic Channel features tornado researchers

The laboratory tornados created by Iowa State University researchers Partha Sarkar, Fred Haan and Bill Gallus will help television viewers understand how science can help buildings stand up to tornados. The Iowa State researchers will be featured in "Explorer: Secrets of the Tornado" at 7 p.m. (Central), Sunday, Sept. 18, on the National Geographic Channel. The show will be rebroadcast at 10 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18; at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19; at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24; at 2 a.m. Monday, Sept. 26; and at 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9.

Making plant cells work like miniature factories

Ames Laboratory researchers are working to harness the power of plant cells to produce new materials in a new biotech field called metabolomics.

One ISU student dead, three injured in Boone County car crash

A two-car accident in Boone County Tuesday night has claimed the life of one Iowa State University student and injured three other ISU students. The accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 30 and South Linn Street shortly after 8 p.m. Sept. 13. Andrew Albright, a sophomore majoring in ag studies and a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity, was killed in the accident.
