ISU business professors offer managers tips to motivate employees during tough times

Two Iowa State University management professors who study employee turnover and work commitment -- James McElroy and Paula Morrow -- offer managers advice on how they can still motivate their workers when they may be asked to do more with less during these economic tough times.

Bill Sackter documentary screening and discussion set for Feb. 24 at ISU

A screening of the documentary "A Friend Indeed: The Bill Sackter Story" will be at at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, in the Memorial Union Great Hall. A discussion with filmmaker Lane Wyrick will follow. The event is free and open to the public.

Patagonia founder and environmentalist will speak Feb. 23 on innovation and ethics

As founder and owner of the outdoor apparel company Patagonia, Yvon Chouinard is known as a leader in corporate social responsibility. Chouinard will share his story of building an environmentally conscious company when he presents the keynote address for Iowa State University's National Affairs Series. Chouinard's talk, "Innovation and Ethics," will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23, in the Memorial Union Great Hall. It is free and open to the public.

Philosopher and author Peter Kreeft to speak Feb. 19 on evil and suffering

A philosophy professor and author of more than 50 books, many dealing with the existence of God, will speak at Iowa State. Peter Kreeft, Boston College, will present "The Problem of Evil and Suffering" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 19, in Stephens Auditorium. Kreeft's books include "Making Sense Out of Suffering," "Handbook of Christian Apologetics," "Back to Virtue," and "The Philosophy of Tolkien: The Worldview Behind The Lord of the Rings." His talk is free and open to the public.

Iowa State University economist testifies before Congress on cap-and-trade bill

With its enormous capacity to absorb carbon, U.S. agriculture will be an important part of any climate change bill, which could potentially increase corn and soybean prices more than 20 percent, according to an Iowa State University expert.

Leading eating disorder author Jenni Schaefer will speak at Iowa State Feb. 22

A recovered bulimic and bestselling author who has transformed eating disorder awareness and recovery will speak at Iowa State University on Monday, Feb. 22. Jenni Schaefer, coauthor of "Life Without Ed," will present "Recovering from An Eating Disorder and Falling in Love with Life" at 7 p.m. in the Great Hall Memorial Union. Her talk, part of Iowa State's National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, is free and open to the public.

Mother honors late daughter's life by supporting eating disorder awareness week at ISU

Marcia Fischer wants people to understand just how devastating an eating disorder can be. And she should know. Her daughter Emily -- an Iowa State University alumnus -- died last summer after battling anorexia for 20 years. Fischer, who is from Ankeny, is honoring her daughter's life with a gift to the Iowa State University Student Counseling Services' National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, Feb. 21-27. "It's Time To Talk About It" is a weeklong series of events held on campus and elsewhere in Ames.
